Examples:
- A 500 HP boiler requires what size receiver for 10 minutes storage?
- Answer: 500 BHP × .069 (gallons per minute) × 10 minutes = 345 gallon receiver
- A steam load of 6,695,000 BTUs/hour requires what size receiver for 15 minutes of storage?
- Answer:
- Step 1— 6,695,000 BTUs/hour ÷ 33,475 BTUs/hour = 200 BHP
- Step 2— 200 BHP × .069 (gallons per minute) = 13.8 condensing rate (GPM)
- Step 3— 13.8 (gallons per minute) × 15 minutes = 207 gallon receiver
Notes
- BTUs sometimes expressed as MBH (1,000 BTUs/hour). Convert MBH to BTUs by multiplying the value of MBH by 1,000.
- Lbs/hour sometimes expressed as PPH.
