1. When I click to download a file, I get a dialog box. What's this?

For security reasons, Shipco's website forces a download. If you use Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera or other browser, you will see this dialog asking you what to do with the file. In some cases, you may choose to open it in a program immediately, but keep in mind this does not save the file to your computer's disk for archiving. If you would like to make an actual copy of the file on your computer's disk for opening later, click "Save" or "Save to Disk" (varies on browser) and chose the location where you would like put it.

2. I downloaded and opened this PDF, but it's turned on its side on my computer screen. I want to rotate it, so that I can read it on my monitor.

Inside your Adobe Reader program from the "View" menu, find the "Rotate View" option. Select the choice to rotate clockwise or counterclockwise. You can also look for a button in the toolbar that looks like this:

3. I downloaded this file, but my Adobe Reader won't open it.

Shipco outputs mostly all of its literature as Adobe PDF format which should open in the free Adobe Reader. The only exceptions are Specifications Sheets and Dimension Prints. Specifications Sheets are typed and saved in a regular word processor such as Microsoft Word, Works, or WordPad (RTF format specifically). These files are intentionally made to be edited for user-end purposes.

Each Dimension Print is saved in 2 different formats and are labeled as "[PDF] 40xxx" and "[CAD] 40xxx" respectively where 40xxx is the diagram number. The [PDF] version should open in your Adobe Reader. However, the [CAD] version is a computer drafting format and will only open for users that have the Autodesk AutoCAD program (mainly engineers). Be sure you download the PDF if you do not have AutoCAD. If you are still having trouble opening a PDF file in Adobe Reader, then perhaps your version of Adobe Reader is outdated.

4. I get the error "File is damaged and could not be repaired" when I attempt to open a PDF I downloaded.

Typically this could indicate one of several issues, usually having to do with the Adobe Reader on your computer.

  • First retry downloading the file again. The file may not have downloaded correctly and was corrupted.
  • Your Adobe Reader is outdated. Shipco backsaves its PDFs to work with Adobe Reader 5.0 or later, but you should always upgrade to the most recent version whenever possible, as we cannot guarantee a PDF will always work in any versions older than the Adobe Reader version that was used to create the file.
  • The PDF Plugin Adobe includes with Reader is causing some conflict. Do the following: 1) Open your Adobe Reader. 2) Go to the "Preferences..." under the "Edit" menu. 3) Click the "Internet" option on the side. 4) Uncheck the "Display PDF in Browser" box and click OK. Now try to open the file and it should launch the Reader application instead of your browser.
  • There is a problem with your Adobe Reader application. Goto Adobe's website, download and reinstall the free Reader again.

5. I get an error that the PDF file can't be printed when I try to print.

If you were able to download and open the PDF without problem, but get an error when you attempt to print the document, please contact the webmaster as soon as possible! This error indicates that the PDF file wasn't generated correctly with the necessary information to be printed or was corrupted in doing so. This is a rare problem Shipco needs to address. Click here to contact the Shipco webmaster and be sure to indicate the file name, type of literature category (pump curve, bulletin, etc.), or diagram model/type/number you downloaded that gives the error. We'll attempt to correct this problem immediately.

6. My problem isn't listed here. What do I do now?
